NRL looking out for their future stars- Revolutionary Concept an Australian first
November 27th 2007 06:43
Rugby League’s future stars have taken their first step towards the dream of playing in the NRL.
The induction camps are the first step in preparing young players for the demands and challenges of professional Rugby League and involve intensive seminars educating players on topics such as illicit drugs, cultural awareness, attitudes towards women, finance and budgeting, media training and the dangers of alcohol and gambling.
The competition is geared towards 2 careers, with players given grants to pursue further education or work-placed cadetships. It is a fact that not every aspiring player can make the top grade and the new competition will provide players with the training they need for life after football.
So much so that three days of each week are mandated to be left vacant during business hours so that players have time to follow their second career.
The Toyota Cup Under 20's competition will see the young players travel with the 1st grade side, and play the curtain-raiser. They will be able to get used to training and media commitments and this should ensure a smooth transition into NRL and Rugby League's top grade.
