TOYOTA CUP THRILLER - Top of the table clash with stars of tomorrow
June 19th 2008 05:43
They have only lost three games between them this season, now the Panthers and Dragons are set to collide in the biggest Toyota Cup game of the year.
Panthers Coach Steve Georgallis can’t wait for the Blockbuster clash.
“You can sense that the players know it’s a big game, because they are really switched on at training,” Georgallis said.
“There is a lot to play for, it’s one of those games where you don’t have to prep your player’s up, hopefully we can go out there and play our best football, we usually do against the best teams.
Something has to give; the Panthers have the most potent attack in the league scoring a whopping 398 points, while the Dragons have the stingiest defence, conceding a paltry 218 points.
The battle will showcase some of Rugby League’s brightest up and coming stars with Lachlan Coote, Masada Iosefa and Wade Graham taking on Sam Morath, the Kennedy twins and Matt Mundine.
“Matt Mundine looks a bit of a handful and their halves a quite good,” Georgallis said.
“Obviously the have been playing well if they haven’t been beaten since round 1.
“We’ve been winning as well, but we haven’t been convincing.”
The Toyota Cup has been a huge success this year, and its revolutionary concept is proving to be a blueprint for other codes, hoping to match its success this year.
“It has been great, everyone has said the same thing,” Georgallis said.
“We might have been a little skeptical at the beginning of the year, just for the fact that the Jersey Flegg was a very good competition, but it was not as strong as this competition is.
“It really is much stronger physically, it’s quicker than the Flegg competition.
“It is a very exciting competition, I’m loving it, you always enjoy it when you are winning, but the most enjoyable thing is seeing our kids go up and play first grade.”
If you can get to ANZ Stadium this Friday night, get there early – because some of these players will become superstars of the game, its not a case of if, but when…
