A place to debate all things sport

How do you do it? Keeping up your blog - the hard slog - Sport in a snapshot

April 8th 2008 06:01
How and where does anybody find the time to blog consistently? I find it enjoyable and yet so hard to maintain. The sport world in particular is in full-swing, but I just don’t have the time to get onto my blog and write anymore…

I have just been so busy and have neglected my blog… I love chatting about sport and debating everything sport related, but there just isn’t enough time in the day to continually keep ahead of it all. So for that I am sorry.

Where do you find the time?

Here are a few snapshots of what has been happening…

The Toyota Cup (The NRL’s inaugural Under 20s competition) has kicked off and has been simply amazing. Fox Sports is covering 2 games a week live and the standard has been incredibly high. If you do a stats comparison with the NRL you will find that completion rates, offloads, points etc are almost on par.

The teams are also so closely matched and there have been some absolute cracking finishes… Round 4 saw four games decided by four points or less, demonstrating the closeness of the competition.

The Broncos came back from a 24-0 halftime deficit against the Storm stealing a dramatic victory with a try in the final minute; the Raiders stole the points against the Titans with a try in the last 30 seconds, while Tim Mannah scored in the dying minutes to earn the Eels a draw with the Cowboys.

Can you ask for anything more? There have been draws, dramatic come-backs and games go down right to the wire… IF you haven’t seen a game yet, do yourself a favour and get to an NRL game early to watch these stars of tomorrow in full swing! They kick-off 2hrs and 15 mins before first grade all season long.

I had a chat with Newcastle Knight James McManus this week – he was born in Scotland – played his junior football in Darwin and ended up at the knights… he hadn’t even heard of Rugby League before he was 10… and now he could find himself playing in the World Cup at the end of the year! You can find the yarn here at

CLICK HERE– labeled ‘Knight’s Flying Scotsman’

I have also talked to Manly’s new sensation Michael Bani – watch this space for an interesting prediction on Bani – who hails from a remote Northern Queensland outpost and spent his childhood hunting and eating turtles with his family – how times have changed for this great individual.

Anthony Minichiello has been stood down indefinitely due to a recurring back injury – he won’t play again until it is completely pain-free. Such a pity, he has been playing really well and it is scary that this injury that has all but ruled him out for the last 2 years has returned again. I hope it isn’t a career threatening injury and we see him back really soon…

There you go, I haven’t even had time to talk about other sports, Roddick beat Federer… Amazing! The record is now 16-2 off the top of my head, so it is a significant event. One wonders what is wrong with the Fed Express? Is he slipping or just having a bad run?

Is his streak at Wimbledon about to come to an end? - He will need to shape up, the aura of invincibility is quickly seeping through his grasp…

What else has happened, quick I am running out of time?

Oh not in sport news, but I noticed the Undertaker won at Wrestlemania… I haven’t watched wrestling since I was knee high to a duck and Hulk Hogan was running around with his “I am a real American” theme song blaring… but this takes the Undertakers streak at Wrestlemania to 16-0 a great achievement for one of the ‘sport’s’ greatest ever. He must be 50 by now, but he was always my favourite growing up – maybe I should watch it again, before he retires and the last personality is lost to wrestling forever.

But then again, where would I find the time?

Hey there sportsbar,

That Gold Coast v Canberra U/20 matchwas an absolute cracker - I was live at the game on behalf of the Titans media, and to see three brilliant tries in the final 10 minutes was a great end to an entertaining match!

To answer your initial query - time management! I find if I organise my schedule a couple of days in adavance, then I can find time to update my NRL News blog daily. Also being on the majority of NRL clubs media lists also helps I guess!

Cheers mate, and keep up the good work,

StephenP
