The biggest try-scoring spree of the season has helped raise $213,000 for Rugby League’s One Community Charities and the Men of League during Harvey Norman Heritage Round.
Harvey Norman donated $1000 for every try scored during the game’s 100-year anniversary round and the clash between the Raiders and Storm in Canberra took the total to 68 – the most of any Premiership round this season.
Combined with money raised from Heritage Week’s Team of the Century Ball and a special online auction that featured replica Team of The Century blazers, Centenary Test and World Cup prizes, signed 2008 Kangaroos jerseys and a commemorative Harvey Norman Centenary of Fan Day print, the total raised for charity is $213,000.
“Harvey Norman Heritage Round reflected Rugby League’s proud history of charity work that dates back to the game’s first season,” One Community Manager Trish Crews said today.
“Harvey Norman has been extremely generous in their support of our One Community charities and the Men of League, as have the clubs and players.”
The money will be distributed among Rugby League’s four One Community charity partners – Youngcare, Lifeline, The National Breast Cancer Foundation and Children’s Hospital Foundations Australia – and the Men of League.
