NEW NRL Video Game!

April 6th 2009 01:40
The Greatest League game ever made!

It has been a while since there was a quality NRL video game – well I would argue there has only been one – ARL 96!

The game to this day is fun to play – proof you don’t need good graphics, you just need good gameplay… and while the game is very dated, the creators got it right!

I still quote the commentators from that game.

It was the coolest game in its day and is one of Australia’s highest selling games to this day.

But, the time has come for Rugby League to have a new game.

I am looking for ideas on how to make the game – what you would like to see.

Obviously the last two games were disappointing; I would love to find out what you would do if you were making a game from scratch.

Ideas would include: Career mode – juggling salary cap, injuries and young players coming from the Toyota Cup coming through.

While playing, have a button that toggles decoy runners – putting you the halfback in control of the action – never done before in a league game – which would provide great depth in gameplay…

What camera perspective would work – ala Madden style behind the attacking team – or is this the best view to play?

Now… get cracking with your ideas!

I would have an NRL superstar mode, were you start from the buttom eg. Panthers juniors and work your way up to first grade and become the legend of the club, have agents, meetings and interviews, choose how much you want for your salary and if you dont like the offers get your agent to go to other clubs and talk to them, do training with your team, but not just boring old practice, mix it up abit like you would do in real life, do weights, make your guy stronger... put back franchise mode, they took it out in rugby league live and honestly, worst mistake they could of done.. have fights like be realistic there are fights in rugby league. make franchise mode longer, you dont want to play for a few years get a madd team then have to start again.. still have online, but if you do make it you cant exit out of games, there was so many times on rugby league live that i would be winning by a big margin and the oppenet would quit the game.. i know its all about gameplay but cmon, you want awesome graphics aswell! i wouldnt care if everything i just said was in the game and i had to pay 200 bucks, i would!

Something rugby league live didn't have (beacause it seemed to have gone a bit backwards compared to rugby league 1 and 2# was being able to create a player and insert them into an NRL squad. Also small things like having the ref#s) actually present on field, adds a touch of reality to it, better replays, and the idea of having Toyota Cup guys working their way into the NRL squad is excellent
