Former NRL players make switch to Referees - Will it work?
March 11th 2008 06:29
South Sydney stalwart Paul Mellor and former Sharks player Henry Perenara have traded their boots for whistles.
It is hoped that the former players will make a smooth transition into the ref ranks and be able to relate to players better.
Why not, they should have an instant respect from players and they obviously know the rules fairly well - they are fit athletes and there is no reason why it can't work...
In reality players should make the best referees - in theory anyway...
They are going through their paces and will hopefully make the jump to first grade within the next 5 years...
Will it work? The signs are positive
