Ponting back in form
May 23rd 2008 04:56
Ricky Ponting has hit 158 on the 1st day of the 1st Test against the West Indies.
It his his 35th Test Century and has put Australia in a commanding position at 4 - 301 at stumps.
It is good to see Punter back in form! Unfortunately Katich missed out on the runs. He has worked so hard and forced the selectors hands to get back in the team, but shouldn't be too far away from repaying the faith.
This series seems to be flying under the radar with the IPL in full-swing, but this is a key series in the leadup to the mouth watering Ashes just next year. It goes so quick and we need to start establishing our middle order.
With Clarke and Hayden missing, it really does feel like the start of a new era in Australia cricket... but we have returned to some old hands to get us through - Hodge is back in the side, if not for a fleeting moment in time, Katich is back - but I don't trust the selectors - they have treated him with disdain his whole career - He could be the Scott Prince or Matt Bowen of the Australian team - an absolute freak, but not deemed good enough for rep honors...
Hang in their Katich, I was there when you cracked 300 - and it was very impressive
